Bravo! …Wilderness Systems.

Well as all my water slowly turns to ice and cold short winter days send some of us running for shelter I have started my annual winter tinkering with the natural order of things. One of my projects is to do a little work to my 2000 12 foot Pungo.

This kayak has seen almost daily use (weather permitting. Read: “ice and snow covered winter”) for 10 years this coming spring and this is the first time I have taken the rigging off in that entire time. I am really happy to see what incredible condition all the hardware is in still. Now this is no babied kayak, not by any means. Just check out my video of dragging the poor thing through the woods. All I’m saying is that for the abuse I dish out, the boat now only looks like a distinguished old lad of 10 and is more than willing to give me twice as much as that again at the drop of a hat.

Here is the hardware I’m talking about. Rear shock cord retaining pad eyes.

Thank you so much! Now my stupid friends will never get to say crap about my “Stupid Plastic Boat” ever again. Now all I have to do is show them this and say: “Lets see what your boat and hardware looks like after 10 years of next to no maintenance or upkeep and, and for extended times, getting drug across the ground daily into everything from weeds and scum to HUGE boulders and ledges in fast moving rivers then out to offshore reefs on Lake Erie… Now shut your face!”
I know what my next kayak is going to be… not to replace my beloved Pungo, no-way-never. Anyway, it’s going to be another Wildy that much is for sure!
