Scupper Hole transducer mount Tarpon 140

I am setting up a Tarpon 140 with a Lowrance Elite 4 DSI, and want to use a scupper hole mount.

My two questions are:

Is one scupper hole better than another? and,

Would the transducer perform better (bubbles & turbulence) mounted in the 'trough' of the hull, where it is protected; or extended below the plane of the hull? The latter increases the risk of rub off.

You know Steve, you could be correct BUT you really could learn how to talk to other people. There is a difference between sharing your opinion and shoving it down everyone else throat. It's not always what you say, but how you say it. You need to learn some Tact my friend as your a little short on it.

I like my transducers "in the water" also, but I could have found a better way to tell Ashley to try it rather than trying to make him trying pick a fight with him. Your installation might be professional, but you are less than. Oh wow, you're the Bass Yak dude huh? You're not going to sell your products to me right now!

Rob, first you  buy a product for it's performance, if it doesn't perform as it should, you should avoid it or return it. I don't buy a product because someone spoke nicely to me!! I buy a product if it's going to work for me.

Rob I am correct, and here lies the problem with many forums, "Bad Info" is being delivered by folks how think they know what they're talking about, that "Bad info" cost others time and cash.

There is no  in the water/ in the hull debate for the DSI, there's 1 way to do it period.

You know Newt Gingrich might have been the the most qualified candidate for President this year. If you're the smartest guy in the room and proceed to tell everyone, they will not like you. You can be right, but no one will want to listen to your position when you lecture them like a child.

Part of your problem is in your last sentence. There is only 1 way to do it. Maybe you could have said I have tested this and this is what I have found works the best and I don't think it will work properly any other way. I too think in the water is better, but I am not going to come on here a squash debate over it.

No one has ever had their opinion changed through lecturing and finger shaking. Debate the info without stepping on people and their thoughts in the process. That is all I am trying to relay to you. Lighten up some. :)

Rob you just proved my point, the DSI is a different animal than the regular 2 beam, or 3 or Quad beam transducer. The transducer HAS to be installed like the Side Imaging transducer, In the water away from turblance, away from obstruction, no blocked vision.

It's not a question of inside or outside of the kayak. 

This isn't a debate, it's fact,  the problem you and Ashley don't know the product.

Hey guys, new to the website but I do know that these particular DSI units must be submerged fully in the water.  Now whether or not the Elite 4 DSI is a bad unit remains to be seen.  I've had a lot of people tell me it's awesome and especially when mounted correctly.  It appears to me that you get a lot of bang for the buck with this little unit.  I suppose you could have it mounted through the hull but why would you want to if you can use the skupper mount provided along with the Tallon Elite Socket.

Here are a couple of reviews on Cabelas where the two people seem to really like the Elite 4 DSI.  One person used the skupper mount and the other through the hull.  However, the transducer is fully submerged in both cases....

Guys, Look for something else, the 4" screen is too small to see anything. I tried 3 different units and they all SUCKED!!!!

Don't waste your time with the 4" DSI. Your screen will NEVER look like the advertisement photos

Look into the Humminbird units the DI is much better.

I have a Lowrance Elite-4 DSI installed on my 2012 Ride 135 and have ghad great results, would recommend it to anyone. There are 2 limitations with the DSI technology you must keep in mind when concidering purchase. 1 limited depth range for usable signal is about 200ft 2 to get signal without degradation the TRANSDUCER MUST BE MOUNTED IN THE WATER. You can mount it in hull and 50/50 chance it will work but I guarantee there wIll be alot of signal loss and your images wont look like they do on ads. I have mine mounted on a side board wsing the deployment arm powered by 8 AA batteries and i see everything below my boat. When i have zoomed in on images of bridge pilings that were on the bottom i can determine if poured concrete or brick and can see sish laying on the bottom. If you want mor clarity or size in a screen its gonna cost you in bucks and space on deck. I hope this helps.

Do you use the Lowrance Scupper Mount with your unit for the transducer ?  I've heard good things about Tallon Elite Socket also which allows you remove the unit and provides a nice flush way of mounting your GPS with the RAM accessories.  Let me know how you did it if you could.  I'm about to purchase my 2nd Tarpon 140 and will be looking at both of these products.  Looking for some feedback or anyone else that has experience with these.

Mine is mounted off the side of yak using the Harmony Transducer Deployment Arm.
