Standing/ Casting in a Tarpon 160. Thoughts/ experience?

I want to get a tarpon 160 for speed and ability for going long distances. I am spoiled with the stability of my Original 2000 " The Ride". Can i stand and cast in the 160? Any input would be helpful.

I have an 06 and older 02 or so Tarpon. I would not try it standing. The 160 is a great kayak for a lot of reasons, but standing is not one of them. Of course this is my opinion. Others may have other thoughts. The Ride and Commander are made for that, and the Tarpon really isn't.

thanks for the insight

I have had both the Ride and a T160. I have to agree with Rob that the Tarpon 160 was built to be the fastest fishing kayak on the market, so the stability needed for standing was given up for speed. It can be done with ALOT of practice but that’s depending on the individual. My wife easily stands in the T140 with zero issues but she is only 5' tall which lowers her center of gravity.

Before moving to the Tarpon look at the all new redesigned Ride 135, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how quick and stable it is.

thanks for the insight

I have a Tarpon 120. I am able to stand in it but casting is a little more difficult. I purchased the Scotty Kayak Stabilizers. They are amazing for this. I installed them on my front slide trax at the very front. I installed some angle aluminium running from one side to the other to stiffen up the slide trax. I am now able to stand and flyfish and paddle with ease.
