Tarpon 120 River Fishing?!?!

I live in Detroit, MI by a river named the Huron River and I was wondering if I could use the Tarpon 120 in this river. I was told that this kayak was for lake fishing, but who knows they might be wrong! This river is a medium flow river. so, can this kayak be used in a river? Also, can you stand in this kayak?

Actually the Tarpon 120 is a GREAT kayak for fishing in rivers. Its all about the ease of access when it comes to getting on and off of it while in the water. If your river has boulder fields, exposed ledges, sand bars, etc, you'll really appreciate being able to just swing your legs over the side and sit there or stand up to get onto those aforementioned "obstacles" that are usually pretty good spots to fish. Standing on a T120 is something else all together. I know a few people that can pull it off while stationary on flat water, but the Tarpon series wasn't really for standing on. If your looking for a good river kayak that you can also stand on, you need to look into the new Ride 115... that WAS made for standing on. ;-)

It's possible to stand in a Tarpon, but I don't suggest it to many people. You really need to keep an active balance posture and ALWAYS be aware of keeping your head over the boat's center line or you'll go for an accidental swim. A guy in my Kayak Fishing 102 class snapped this picture last spring at the East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival when one of the students said "Nobody can stand on a Tarpon". I taught the rest of the hour long class from this position and laid out a few 60 to 70 foot casts (doing a double haul). With that said, the Ride is still a Much better choice for standing and fishing.
