Wondering how and where to mount bow and stern lights on a Tarpon 120 without drilling into my kayak? Also wondering what this is for:

The groove that you are referring to is where the optional rudder will rest. See the image here: Tarpon Rudder

As far as mounting lights with out drilling I think you options are limited to something with a suction cup like this Multi Strobe Light.
If you're planning to operate a kayak at night, the traditional red/green bow lights are a REALLY BAD idea. Kayaks are slow moving craft, so lighting one to powerboat requirements could get you run down by someone thinking you have manueverability and speed.

Go with a traditional white light visible from 360 degrees. powerboaters recognize the fixed white light as a vessel at anchor and should steer clear.
Here's my favorite, made by kayakers for kayakers. The VISIPole from YakAttack
Thanks for your help.
check out Kayalu products. They are a fairly new company and have a pretty neat light. Just put one on my Tarpon 120. Got a photo if you are interested.

I like that Visipole, especially the Jolly Roger Flag. Need to get a Scotty mount. Thanks for all the advice guys. Check out my pics from the last trip.
You can put it in a Scotty or just slip it in a rod holder on your crate. Either way works well. I like having it on the crate so it's tucked closer to my back and is out of the way when I cast.
Think I'll get the scotty mount and put it on my back slidetrax. It'll be out the way there. Wish they sold them on Amazon.
We might not be Amazon but we do offer some great pricing and same day shipping. www.austinkayak.com

You sure do and love those bonus coupons monthly!!! Thanks for helping me pimp out my ride!
