2011 IFA Kayak Fishing Championship Chalmette, LA

2011 IFA Kayak Fishing Championship Results In case you do not know, Chalmette,LA was ground zero for Hurricane Katrina and many blame its movement of water up through the MRGO (Pipeline Canal) as the reason for much of the flooding and devastation.  Since then they have erected numerous dams and levy's to try and counter act the destruction.  Well, we fished at the new dam in the MRGO in an…See More

Fourth Annual Forgotten Coast Kayak Fishing Classic results

The Fourth Annual Forgotten Coast Kayak Fishing Classic for Meals on Wheels has come to a close with all of the tradition of years past. Great hospitality, family reunion atmosphere, lots of great prizes, outstanding sponsors, and the weather as our x-factor. This years weather presented us with tornado warnings north of us, and small craft advisory’s south of us. The wind was anywhere from 5mph at one time to…See More

My First Fish Landed in 2011 in the Commander 140

My buddy Jason let me know there was a small break in the rain so we decided to take a trip on the water and get the cobwebs out.  The day started out bad for Jason when he missed his rod holder and dropped a rod into 5 feet of water.  I immediately chunked out my anchor that has a bright red buoy on the end to mark the area he lost the rod.  We spent a frustrating 30 minutes looking for a Stradic on a Gloomis rod and decided t look later and go fish.   I happen upon this 27" Redfish with a DOA…See More

"And of course this is for car camping. I have many backpacking tents, and needed a little something for the crew to use on those long trips to visit our friends in far away cities. I'll probably use it more here in Florida than anywhere though."

Lets pack up the tent and go fishing

I picked up my new Coleman Tent today that I ordered from Cabelas. i thought this would make a good addition to out kayak fishing expeditions and help lower the cost of our accommodations. I set it up in the back yard by myself and it too less than 20 minutes by myself. It says it sleeps 6 but I would keep it at 4 adults max, unless someone sleeps on the porch. And whats inside. And it comes with stakesI laid it out flat, stake it out on the ends, and put up one of the red center poles. Then the…See More

“Just because you are in an uncomfortable place, does not mean you have to be uncomfortable”

In 2006 we organized the Forgotten Coast Kayak Anglers website as a live-action knowledge base for Forgotten Coast and Big Bend area kayak fishermen. With the help of fellow anglers and local and national vendors we have produced the largest charity kayak fishing tournament on the west coast of Florida benefitting Meals on Wheels at the Wakulla Senior Services Center.
Kayak(s) of Choice?
My passion is kayak fishing for Redfish in shallow water. I crave nothing more than site casting to Redfish with top water lures and willow blade spoons. I spend 8 -10 hours on the water in my quest and there is no kayak more comfortable to paddle or sit in than the Tarpon 160. You have to be prepared for the unexpected, and there is no kayak I depend on more to turn an uncomfortable situation into a more comfortable situation than the Tarpon 160.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment would have to be the 1998 Big Ride. That year we bicycled from Seattle, Washington to Washington DC from June 15, to August 1, 1998. We averaged 82 miles a day, peddled 3281 miles, took 8 days off for rest and raised over 6 million dollars for The American Lung Association.

Second would be my service to Meals on Wheels and meeting the folks that depend on our visits for their physical nourishment, and the fellowship we can provide in a short visit.
Favorite Places to Paddle
The Forgotten Coast, andBig Bend region of Florida between Horseshoe Beach and Panama City, Florida

Finished in Third Place at the IFA Kayak Fishing tournament Titusville

It was the second leg of the East Coast division and I arrived Friday Morning in the North end of Mosquito Lagoon to fish the east side kind of late in the morning with John Chapman. We found a great location that a local Captain told us about. I was in my Tarpon 160 which is a dream in shallow water, and high winds. Its the boat to be in when the going gets tough. The problem at this spot was that local boys were prepping for the IFA boat tournament and were keying in on the same place so we… Continue

3rd Annual Forgotten Coast Kayak Fishing Classic Results

Third Annual Forgotten Coast Kayak Fishing Classic is in the books. 157anglers competed for kayaks, paddles, PFD’s, stake out poles, and pride. The proceeds went to the Meals on Wheels Program at Wakulla County Senior Services Center. We held the event at the Moose Lodge in Panacea Florida, and folks came from Californai, Texas, New York, Virginia, and even Minnesota to fish this years event. The wind was stiff at 15 to 20 mph out of the east and much better than the 50 mph gail force winds in… Continue
