I'm looking into a used Ride 135 that the owner says is around 10 yrs old but has hardly been used and garage stored.     I have fishing boats including a Tarpon 160i that I like but I was thinking…Continue

Tarpon 160i foam blocking?

I got out in my Tarpon again today and I'm getting it set up as I like it for fishing.  When I was rinsing it down and getting my stuff out of the hatches I found in the hatch behind the seat a foam…Continue

Tarpon 160i... does it need a rudder?

I recently bought a new-to-me Tarpon 160i.   It's a 2006 model and has a rudder.   I took it out for the first time on Friday and honestly, I forgot to use the rudder.    I'm not used to paddling…Continue

"Thanks John, Im in the middle of the East Texas 200 HP Bass Boat Country. I have a dozen good bass lakes within 50 miles. The closest is across the street. Have used water skeeters and other self propeled watercraft in the past, just have a real…"

"Mike, I come from a sit-in paddling background and always used to view sit-on-tops as clunky to paddle.    Since I've started fishing from a kayak I've learned that there are some decent paddling SOT's out there and the…"

"John, What were your reasons for choosing the Tarpon 160, do you do a lot of big water fishing?  I'm looking hard at the commander 140 but read a lot of good things about your boat."

"Mike, It's medium density I'd say.   I'm sure it's original equipment and I've figured out how it goes back (I think behind the seat) in but truthfully that was back in June and I'd have to poke a flashlight…"

I'm looking into a used Ride 135 that the owner says is around 10 yrs old but has hardly been used and garage stored.     I have fishing boats including a Tarpon 160i that I like but I was thinking of trying the ride for a boat I could stand in.Question is.... how has the ride changed over the last ten yrs?   Same basic hull?   Are there just bell and whistle changes or is it a very different boat nowadays? Thanks,JohnSee More

"Today I got the foam block out.   It was behind the scupper tubes under the rear storage area.   It's about 3x7x7.    Is this original equipment?"

Tarpon 160i foam blocking?

I got out in my Tarpon again today and I'm getting it set up as I like it for fishing.  When I was rinsing it down and getting my stuff out of the hatches I found in the hatch behind the seat a foam block that sits behind the scupper "pillars" that run from floor to ceiling inside the hatch.    The block has a specific shape but I'm not too sure what it is and I couldn't get it out from behind the scupper pillars in the time I had to mess with it.     I'm thinking it is something that's…See More

"I'll paddle with it a few more times to decide but I'll likely take it off just to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the thoughts. John"

"Also remember. This is pretty much a keels boat as far as I am concerned, and it will flat spin when the wind is at your side. The rudder does help with that quite a bit when you are moving of course."

"I have an older (early 2000's) Tarpon and it has a rudder. I like it in certain situations. Windy days when trolling, long paddles in ocean current. Places like that. My '06 does not have a rudder and I thought I would miss it. I really…"

Tarpon 160i... does it need a rudder?

I recently bought a new-to-me Tarpon 160i.   It's a 2006 model and has a rudder.   I took it out for the first time on Friday and honestly, I forgot to use the rudder.    I'm not used to paddling with a rudder and I just didn't think of it.  The Tarpon seemed to paddle fine without using it though I only logged about 5 miles in small doses while fishing. What's the opinions here?   Is the rudder really needed on this yak?   I'm inclined to take it off just because I don't like the extra cables…See More
