I’m not much of a chef, just ask my wife. Too much of this…too little of that…I can screw-up a peanut butter and jelly. However, this year’s Lake Michigan Kayak Salmon Slam had all right ingredients.
KayakFishtheGreatLakes.com hosted its annual event on the scenic Lake Michigan shore in northwestern Michigan. The outing blended the beautiful national seashore, rod bending strikes, tasty fish, a smoldering campfire, and friendly people. Take all of that and bake at 68 degrees with…

The Stones sang it best, “If you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.”
One day about two months ago, I had put in off Geiger before first light and headed out deep in between the channel markers to see if I could jump some poons early in the dark with a top water fly. Ended up jumping 3 (never got my hand on a leader) but the pure joy of jumping a tarpon on a fly rod from a kayak (and by yourself) is near indescribable. Total Rush!
Then it was fins to…

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in our Wilderness community for our first couple of months. We're going to be doing a lot more with the site throughout the fall and winter.
I wanted to give a few updates of some changes that will be coming from the Ning software, which is what this site is built on. These changes will begin to roll out in September and I'll update everyone on what's going on and what they mean.
One that rolls out later this week is the iPhone…

On August 16, 2009 I was in Madison, Wisconsin with Dave Larson, Wilderness Systems Regional Sales Rep, for the Rutabaga Fishing Rendevous and had a chance to get the "scoop" on the new Commander. I also had a chance to do an informal smallmouth bass talk to participants.
I've attached some pictures from the day.
As Dave explaineded to me, the Commander is a hybrid in the…

Here is a video I made showing how to make a 360 degree lantern out of a Wyler Light drink mix can and a Mini-Maglite. It is brighter than any kayak light I have seen on the market today.
Here is the parts list.....
pool fun noodle tube ( hole in the center)
Wyler's Light drink mix can
2" Blind Spot Mirror ( small dome mirror from auto parts store)
3M 77 Spray Adhesive
sand paper
electric knife
empty longneck beer…

MY man Rich and I decided to use the nice clean swells generated by Bill to do some reentry practice. We decided to hit the southside of Cape Point. There was a total cover up of 3-6fters coming in. We got in some good practice for over 2 hours and added some nice new bruises to boot. Being drug 60 ft underwater, while holding on to your paddle that is leashed is a great way to clean out your sinuses.
I love the frontend…

I've owned my Ride 135 Angler for less than a week and I can already see that it is going to give me access to more fish than I could ever reach from land, or even with a larger boat.
I caught my first speckled trout on the
maiden voyage. I slipped out for about 30 minutes later that day and enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the Pamlico Sound for my second outing. What better…
