Canoecopia - Madison, WI March 12-14, 2010

I'm excited be scheduled for two seminars at the 2010 Canoecopia, the largest Kayak/Canoe (and related products) expo in the country.

My seminar title is - "Kayaking for Door County Smallies"

Door County, WI is the peninsula that pokes out into Lake Michigan and is a national top 10 smallmouth bass destination. I've fished these waters on 134 days since 1995 catching and releasing 3,500 smallies. Many in the 4 to 6 pound range.… Continue

Very Funny Pungo Video

For those who have a Pungo or are familiar with sea kayaks and recreation kayaks, this is hysterical. Not sure exactly who made it.

There is actually some sound design/performance discussion here. And some very unsound.

Also funny for those who consider themselves "intermediate" kayakers (as I do, but I can still laugh at myself).…

Camera-less Report

My guilt got the better of me as I couldn't stand it anymore...sitting behind the double-pane and staring at the beautiful weather. I threw the kayak on the Jeep and took-off for a couple hour solo trip.

I fished what I have dubbed the "Time Machine"...where the 70 degree water temps make it seem like July, even though its November. I killed the LM despite there being 3 or 4 glitter-paint stink boats fishing the same area. I had the impression they grew tired of me holding up 2 and 3… Continue

Backwoods Fishing!! 10 Pound Bass in the Commander

We headed out to one of our drag-paddle-drag-paddle-portage-paddle spots yesterday and found the bass hungry and cooperative after two weeks of crazy Mid-Atlantic weather.

Paddling in the last stretch before the honey hole.

Austin started it off with a topwater bass.

Kyle followed with a fat black bass of his own.…

Another Kayak bonus in Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a great place to live if you fish. But once we hit late fall it's time to winterize the "big" boat and in the past I've missed hitting the water on those "rare" warm late fall days.

The weekend of November 7 and 8 we had highs of 70 and having just put the boat away, I took the Tarpon 140 out and caught and release some nice smallies. Yet, another bonus to having one of these great kayaks.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that before the lakes freeze that we… Continue

British Adventurer Walking/Paddling 1250K Now Halfway

British Adventurer over halfway along the Murray River on Source to Sea Expedition.

Englishman Dave Cornthwaite has now walked and paddled more than 1250km (777miles) and is now over halfway along the Murray, as he travels from source to sea investigating whether Australia’s greatest river is dying.

Cornthwaite, who gained a Guinness World Record for crossing Australia on a skateboard in 2006, is a published author and passionate advocate of using sport and travel to… Continue

Northern CA Sierra Neveda Kayak Fishing Trip 2009

Went up to Northern CA to do some kayak fishing in the high country lakes. The road up to the lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We decided if once more we can make our way to the high country lakes, which require 4x4 at a certain point.

got to the first lake.

Decided to bring my Tarpon 120 for easy maneuvering, and… Continue

kayak cast and blast...

the migration of ducks along the central flyway that funnel along the gulf coast of Texas is a sight to see and a boon for duck hunters. while most of the hunters in our area travel in airboats with mega spreads of decoys, i prefer to do things on a the "kayak scale" which is basically keeping things simple a operating with a much smaller amount of gear and being as successful as anybody else out there. the Pamlico 135 is awesome for carrying decoys, gun, camera box, and fishing gear out to the… Continue

Blue Bird Days and Catching Fish

Weekend before last, my fishing partner, William, and myself made our usual 240 mile trip from NW Austin to Aransas Pass, TX. We go down usually once a month for 3 days leaving on Thursday after work and returning Sunday afternoon. That gives us a full 2.5 days to fish. Since we have to travel and plan our trips anyway, we try to schedule trips based on moon phases, predicted tides, and weather forecasts. But sometimes we just have to go when we can.

That was the case for us in… Continue

Paddle-Fishing.Com Tournament Series Event #2 Final Results

We had 45 anglers show up today to fish the waters of Ft Desoto and South St Petersburg. This was the second event of the Paddle-Fishing.com Tournament Series 2009-2010. The format allowed the anglers to bring whatever they would like to fish with.

The day started off very nice with a little wind and nice incoming tide but eventually the fish won out with a pretty slow fishing day for all. There were no slams caught and in total only 4 redfish and 9 snook were caught by 45 anglers… Continue
