DIY Scotty backing plates - fabrication & install video

After being inspired by Luther of Yakattack's recent video for the Fullback, I decided to fabricate some backing plates for the Scotty 344 mounts that I already had installed on my kayak. I use those mounts in conjunction with Scotty's Rocket Launchers. Although I haven't had any problems with the 344's, I've been a little worried that if I don't have my drag set correctly on the reel while trolling, there could be a potential failure where the mount is attached to the kayak. This new setup works very well and is exponentially stronger than the way I had it installed before. The blog post at PKF has full details of part numbers, cost and links to where I got the supplies.
