PAINT JOB UPDATE: ONE YEAR LATER

I have had a few PM's and requests for an update on how the paint job is holding up after the first full year.  So here ya' go.

Two things first...
1. I think its pretty well known that I DO NOT in anyway baby my kayaks, I'm pretty darn rough on them as a matter of fact... so remember that when you look at the pics.

2. I basically say something along these lines to everyone that asks about painting a kayak: "The first step in painting a kayak is coming to terms with the fact that some of your hard work IS GOING TO GET SCRATCHED OFF at some point, so get yourself OK with that and your ready to start."

Ok pics.

Most of the "damage" obviously has happened to the sides, bow, and bottom where the kayak scrapes against trees, stumps, rocks, docks, rip rap, other boats, buildings, etc.

Here is one of the "worst" spots on the side where the paint has been scraped away...

I'm pretty sure that this was done by using the gunnels as a pivot point during one handed paddling...

There was some random paint transfer here and there from coming in contact with other objects along the way...

Here are some random scrapes across the surface that I believe are from my last trip out when my anchor trolley was frozen to the kayak... I couldn't get it disconnected for the hour trip home and it rubbed against the kayak the whole way home.

The bow took quite a beating.  That's what happens when you run full speed up onto concrete boat ramps I guess...

And as you can see the bottom also received quite a good amount of punishment as one would expect fishing as much flooded timber and shallow rocky rivers as I do...

*I usually repaint the bottom every year anyway, because it does get so mangled.

Here is an overall picture to show that the package as a whole is still looking pretty darn good IMHO.

Also for the record I would like to add that the Pungo was only washed a total of three times during the year... once before each show/seminar I did last year.   So like I said, I don't baby them at all and I think this paint job has held up pretty well.

I hope that answered some of the questions about how well it has worked out after the first year of use.  If anyone wants to know anything else feel free to ask away, I will answer what I can.
